The Project

The Live, the Lonely and the Lockdown is a multi-media project that explores how live streaming platforms such as Twitch are being used as coping mechanisms for young people who are experiencing increased loneliness through Covid-19 and lockdowns. It aims to demystify the intriguing world of streaming and to explore why Twitch is so enticing to a younger audience.

Interviews with a streamer and Twitch fan better articulates the intimacy between their relationship with one another. A neurology psychologist helps to explain what loneliness is and the effects lockdown is having, and the charity WaveLength to learn more about how being connected online can help combat loneliness.

To educate on loneliness and its effects

Loneliness is something we have all come across in our lives. Whether that is something we experience on a personal level or we know somebody close to us going through that experience. Covid-19 has had an unprecedented effect on loneliness within the UK and around the world, increasing rates of loneliness in all demographics. In this project I aim is to educate as to what loneliness actually is, what the short and long-term effects of loneliness are, and what we can all do to counter it.
