What is Twitch?

The what?

Twitch is a live-streaming platform for gamers and other lifestyle casters that supports building communities around a shared interest. You can find the website at Twitch.TV.

The who?

It has millions of users all over the globe, in 2020 averaging 83,700 concurrent live at any given times. As the effects of covid lockdowns became apparent the active number of users increased from just under 4 million to almost 8 million in 2020. Twitch’s core demographic consists of 65% male users, 73% of which are under 35.

The why?

As somebody who has loved games and streaming since I can remember I have heard "why wouldn't you just play instead of watching somebody else?" far, far too many times. Streaming offers a way of engaging with other people with similar interests in real-time. It's like watching football, where you can talk to the players and every other fan in the stadium. It's a level of interactivity and engagement rarely found anywhere else on the internet or maybe entertainment.

The how?

All it takes is a computer, an interest, and some streaming software. Within the blog you will find a guide as to how to start your very own stream.
